Lynemouth Power Station and remains of Lynemouth Colliery
Seen from the north west across the site of the former Lynemouth Colliery. The location of the power station and smelter was chosen because of the availabillity of suitable coal from Lynemouth and Ellington Collieries. After Lynemouth closed, the screening plant continued to be used for the coal from Ellington which was transported by conveyor from a drift. Ellington itself closed in 2005, and was the last deep mine in the north east of England. The pile of rubble is now virtually all that remains of Lynemouth Colliery.
