This cableway was used to transport limestone from the limestone pit in Forsby to the cement factory (today a part of Nordkalk) in Köping. The cableway and factory were completed in 1941. At the time the length of 42km was the longest in Europe. The cableway was in continuous operation until 1997. A high degree of automation allowed 24x7x365 operation with a staff of only 40 people.
