Missouri River Bridge, Chamberlain, SD, 2002

This bridge across the Missouri River in Chamberlain, South Dakota, has an interesting history. Originally the bridge was situated one half mile upstream of its current location and offered only one lane. When the Missouri River Dams were being constructed, a longer span was needed. To achieve this, the four existing 336-ft spans of the Chamberlain Bridge were paired with the five 256-ft sections of the Wheeler Bridge, located downstream of Chamberlain. One newly contructed 256-ft section completed the dual roadway Chamberlain Brige.
