The City of Paper
One of the hugest paper mills in North Italy is the Vita Mayer one.
Abandoned since 30 years is still there, full of vegetation, and nobody want to touch it.

This shot was taken (with some risk :D) on the top of the new oil power plant, also abandoned. In this place, since 1772 there was a small "artigianal" paper production. In 1857 was built the oldest part that you can see at the end, near the blue tank.
In 1900 the plant grew in direction south with some other tall buildings (the first two here on the right, just upon the Olona river). The last enlargment was in 1953 with the power plant (not visibile in this shot), the new silo building (the biggest in the middle) and some other buildings after the left margin).
Infrastructures were the very big problem for the future of this factory because, it had got a small road on the west side, the river that was used for taking water for processes but not navigable and the railway of the Olona Valley, that was the real factor of development of papermills in this area before the 2WW. But this unic-track railway, after the 50s was no more so functionally and finally was closed down. After this, you can imagine, that all the factories closed down too.
Vita Mayer was closed around the 70s.

Now it's quite impossible to find some documents, old shots or simple infos about this place. It seems that everything disappeared and only the plant is there, abandoned, in silence. One day I asked to an old man that was walking outside, but looking to the factory, something about this place. He answered me only: "this place is here from the times' night", and continue to walk along.
