Montecatini Alumetal
|
One of the biggest european aluminium works. It is situated in Trentino-Alto Adige, on the river Adige.
The history of this factory starts in 1928, when two industrial groups decide to built a huge aluminium works. These companies were Montecatini (Italy) and Vereinigte Aluminium Werke (Germany). The cherry on the cake of this complex is that the power for the ovens belongs not from oil power but from hydroelectrical one. The power plant is a kind of sanctuary for european industry culture, but is sadly abandoned and easly accessible. (I will upload the power plant very soon)
The end arrive in 1983, caused by the obsolescence of the complex and the strong competition in the all world.
This amazing relict is still here, and the workers village too. From the motorway is a really a great view, in the boring valley landscape ;-)
Hope for a good reconversion, maybe like a museum or something like this.

About the photo: this view is taken from a bridge between the oven 1 (left - 600 m long) and the oven 3 (right - 450 m long). Under the bridge there is the end of the canal for the power plant, that is situated just behind who watch.
The ovens are 3. The n.1 was built in 1928 but rebuilt in the 50s. The n.2 was built in the 40s. The n.3 is the smaller, built in 1952.
