An SY class locomotive arrives at the marshalling yard in Baiyin, Gansu Province, China, with one of the many smelting works in the background.
This photograph was taken from a rather rickety suspension bridge that spans the whole yard between the offices and railway repair shops. It lies within the restricted area of the city and only one visit was allowed under a special permit and supervision. There are a number of military controlled industrial operations on this system and exploration without authority is extremely inadvisable.
